Mary Ellen Powell, 76, was born to William and Maggie White-Powell on October 7, 1949, in Kenton TN. She left this earthly life for an eternal life on October 7, 2025, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center.
Mary attended Dunbar School in Mayfield, KY, where she called home. Later in life, Mary worked as a housekeeper and cook, embracing the hospitality industry. Mary was a proud member of Second Christian Church.
Mary lived a vibrant and joyful life. She loved music, dancing, and road trips. She became a social media icon through "DADA-TV" where her wit, humor, and bodacious spirit touched hearts nationally. She was also known by many as "JoJo" or "Fun Girl," always carrying a warm spirit, and great sense of humor that brighten any room. Mary was bold and took no mess from anyone, truly a woman that spoke her mind and stood firm in her beliefs.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Melissa Powell, three brothers; Clarence Powell, William Powell, and Lewis White, and two sisters; Jettie Parrott, and Martha Blythe.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, son, Anthony (Latonya) Powell-Faustina (Detroit, MI) and daughter, Yolanda (Joseph) Powell-Starks (Paducah, KY). Mary loved her four sisters; Suncirae Shelton, Susan Murrell, Shirley Beasley of Mayfield, KY, and Karen Murrell (Atlanta, GA). Mary's legacy will continue through the lives of her ten grandchildren; Jamarrin, Derrian, Shawntaneice, Shamicia, Lorentez, Ollie, Majesty, Josiah (Mayfield, KY), Future and Chosen (Detroit, MI); eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, one aunt, Nina Lassiter (Racine, WI) and host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
